Alibaba Cloud Officially Launches ET Brain to Fully Deploy Industrial AI

On the 20th, Alibaba Cloud officially unveiled its ET Brain at the Yunqi Conference and Beijing Summit, a groundbreaking platform that integrates global capabilities in urban management, industrial optimization, medical assistance, environmental governance, and aviation scheduling. The company also announced that it has fully rolled out industrial AI, marking a significant step forward in applying artificial intelligence to real-world challenges. The ET Brain leverages AI technology, cloud computing, and big data, combined with deep domain-specific knowledge. Built on a brain-like neuron network physical architecture and fuzzy cognitive inversion theory, it enables a technological leap from isolated point intelligence to multi-body intelligence. This innovation creates a super-agent capable of multi-dimensional perception, global insights, real-time decision-making, and continuous evolution—mimicking advanced human cognitive abilities. In recent years, Alibaba Cloud has been actively exploring AI applications in areas like urban management and industrial optimization. For example, in Hangzhou’s ET City Brain, AI-controlled traffic lights at 128 intersections have reduced total travel time by 15.3% in the pilot area. Commuters on major elevated roads saved an average of 4.6 minutes, and the accuracy of AI in handling traffic incidents reached 92.3%. Wan Wanli, chief scientist of machine intelligence at Alibaba Cloud, emphasized that the ET Brain represents a shift from localized skills to a globally intelligent system. Unlike other AI products, the ET Brain combines AI, cloud computing, and domain expertise, powered by a brain-inspired neural network and fuzzy cognition theory. This approach allows for a more comprehensive and adaptive AI solution that can perceive, analyze, and act in complex environments. Hu Xiaoming, Senior Vice President of Alibaba Group, highlighted the importance of practical AI application. He stated that AI should not remain a "conceptual AI" confined to labs or presentations, but rather an "industry AI" that delivers real value. According to Hu, Alibaba’s three key criteria for AI success are: first, being scenario-driven and solving real problems; second, having sufficient data to train and improve AI models; and third, possessing enough computational power to support advanced algorithms and deep learning. Only when all three elements align can AI truly deliver meaningful impact.
