Informatization standards have become a key battleground in global market competition, playing a crucial role in shaping industrial interests and defining the structure of supply chains. Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) announced that 197 Chinese industrial communication standards have been upgraded to international levels, marking a significant step forward in China's efforts to strengthen its influence on the global stage.
Chen Yin, director of the Science and Technology Department at MIIT, stated on the 28th that Chinese enterprises and institutions have led the development of 343 international standards. Among these are notable ones like the "Smart Master Plan for Sustainable Cities," which have now gained international recognition. This achievement not only boosts China’s voice in global standard-setting but also enhances the competitiveness of its industries on the world market.
A meeting was held in Beijing by the MIIT to promote industrial and information technology standards. Luo Wen, deputy director of MIIT, emphasized that standards are the core of market competition, reflecting how industrial interests are distributed and how labor is divided across the supply chain.
Since 2015, MIIT has approved the release of 7,264 industry standards, driving the development of 343 international standards by Chinese entities. In 2017, the first batch of 106 group standard application demonstration projects and industrial communication standards were selected, showcasing continuous improvements in technological level, innovation, and internationalization.
Luo Wen also highlighted the importance of focusing on the "Belt and Road" initiative, increasing support for Chinese enterprises and institutions in developing international and multilingual standards. He stressed the need to provide guidance and support for the global expansion of Chinese industries, while accelerating the domestic adoption of Chinese standards to build a mature and complete industrial chain, thereby boosting confidence in the international market.
Emerging sectors such as artificial intelligence and 5G are growing rapidly, but developed countries have not yet finalized their technology research or patent strategies. As global technical standards are still being formed, this presents an excellent opportunity for China to achieve a "transformation beyond" in both industry and standardization.
