On the 20th, Alibaba Cloud officially unveiled the ET Brain at the Yunqi Conference and Beijing Summit, a groundbreaking AI platform that integrates global capabilities in urban management, industrial optimization, medical assistance, environmental governance, and aviation scheduling. The company also announced the full deployment of industrial AI, marking a major milestone in its intelligent transformation.
Leveraging advanced AI technologies, cloud computing, and big data, the ET Brain combines domain-specific industry knowledge with a brain-like neural network architecture and fuzzy cognitive inversion theory. This integration enables a technological leap from isolated intelligence to multi-dimensional, collaborative intelligence. The system is designed to offer real-time decision-making, comprehensive perception, global insights, and continuous evolution—essentially creating a super-agent with enhanced cognitive abilities similar to the human brain.
In recent years, Alibaba Cloud has been actively applying AI in various fields, including urban management and industrial optimization. A prime example is the ET City Brain in Hangzhou, where AI-controlled traffic lights manage 128 intersections. As a result, total travel time in the pilot area dropped by 15.3%, and drivers on main elevated roads saved an average of 4.6 minutes. Additionally, AI's accuracy in handling traffic accidents reached an impressive 92.3%.
Wan Wanli, Chief Scientist of Machine Intelligence at Alibaba Cloud, emphasized that the ET Brain represents a significant upgrade from a localized AI solution to a globally intelligent system. Unlike other AI products, the ET Brain uniquely merges AI technology, cloud computing, big data, and deep domain expertise. By utilizing a brain-like neural network and fuzzy cognition inversion theory, it achieves a breakthrough in moving from single-point intelligence to multi-body intelligence, creating a powerful agent capable of perceiving, understanding, deciding, and evolving in real time.
Hu Xiaoming, Senior Vice President of Alibaba Group, stressed that AI at Alibaba Cloud should not remain just a theoretical concept or a presentation feature. Instead, it must become "industry AI" that delivers real-world value. He outlined three key criteria for successful AI implementation: first, it must be driven by real scenarios and solve tangible problems while reducing costs and increasing efficiency; second, there must be sufficient data to continuously improve AI performance; and third, there needs to be enough computational power to support complex algorithms and deep learning. Only when all three elements align can AI truly deliver meaningful value.
