The development of robotics in China started later compared to other countries, and the industry has long faced challenges in mastering core components such as motors, drives, and especially reducers. These components are approximately 50 years behind global standards, which means China still needs to accumulate more experience and expertise in this area. However, Qu Daokui, Chairman of Xinsong Robot, expressed optimism, stating that it may only take five years for Chinese robots to close this gap.
At the main forum of "Building a Modern Economic System—China's Manufacturing Industry," Qu highlighted that while there are still shortcomings in key industrial robot components, the situation is improving rapidly. He pointed out that China’s development in robotics has been relatively short—only 5 to 8 years—compared to over 50 years of foreign experience. Despite this, he believes that with the right strategies and support, China can catch up quickly.
In December 2017, China Central Television hosted the "2017 CCTV Financial Forum and China Listed Companies Summit" at the Beijing International Trade Hotel, focusing on building a modern economic system. During this event, Qu Daokui shared his vision about the future of smart manufacturing and how China is positioning itself in the global robotics landscape.
Qu emphasized that although there are still gaps in certain areas, the pace of progress in China is impressive. He noted that the country has made significant strides in recent years, supported by its growing market and increasing domestic production capabilities. For instance, companies like Xinsong have already built their own supply chains, reducing reliance on foreign components.
He also pointed out that while China may lag in some traditional industrial sectors, it is now making strong inroads in emerging fields such as AI, big data, and cloud computing. These technologies are advancing at a global level, and China is not far behind. As a result, Qu believes that the era of intelligent manufacturing will be shaped by Chinese innovation and leadership.
During a panel discussion, when asked about the current state of China’s manufacturing industry, Qu described it as a time of rapid growth and transformation. He compared it to a "spring" that is quietly arriving, signaling a new era of opportunity and innovation. He acknowledged the competition from other companies entering the robotics space but saw it as a positive sign of the industry’s potential and growth.
Ultimately, Qu remains confident that with continued investment, technological advancement, and market expansion, China can overcome its challenges and become a major player in the global robotics industry. He concluded that the future of smart manufacturing belongs to China, and the next few years will be crucial in shaping that future.
