TV panel with OLED or QLED? Samsung LG re-issued

Samsung Electronics recently launched a new campaign to promote its technology, targeting its main competitor LG's OLED panels while pushing its own QLED (Quantum Dot Light-Emitting Diode) solution. The company claimed that OLED technology is not well-suited for use in television panels, highlighting issues such as image retention and durability. In the ongoing battle for the next generation of TV display technology, Samsung and LG are positioned on opposite sides—Samsung champions QLED, while LG advocates for OLED. According to Samsung, one of the major drawbacks of OLED panels is their susceptibility to "burn-in," a problem that becomes more pronounced over time. The company compared the organic materials used in OLEDs to fruit that oxidizes and deteriorates, suggesting that this makes them unsuitable for long-lasting devices like TVs. In contrast, Samsung emphasized that QLED technology uses semiconductor nanocrystals, which are more durable and better suited for the demands of television usage. This, they argue, gives QLED an edge in terms of longevity and performance. Meanwhile, OLED TVs have also faced challenges in terms of supply and cost. Ross Young, CEO of DSCC, a display research firm, has predicted that QLED could soon dominate the market due to limited OLED production capacity from LG Display and the potential for lower prices in the future. Although LG did not directly respond to Samsung’s claims, it reiterated that OLED TVs are highly regarded by consumers in 11 countries worldwide, showcasing their strong market appeal and competitiveness. As the competition between QLED and OLED continues, both companies are positioning themselves as leaders in the next era of television technology, each emphasizing the strengths of their respective approaches. With consumer preferences and technological advancements shaping the market, the battle for dominance in the display industry shows no signs of slowing down.
