On February 22nd, ofo announced a strategic collaboration with China Telecom and Huawei to develop an intelligent shared bicycle solution based on the next-generation Internet of Things (IoT) technology known as NB-IoT. This partnership aims to enhance the efficiency, reliability, and user experience of shared bicycles by integrating advanced IoT capabilities. China Telecom will provide extensive wireless network resources, ensuring broad connectivity for ofo's fleet. Meanwhile, Huawei will supply NB-IoT chips and offer technical support for the network infrastructure. This collaboration marks a significant step forward in the application of NB-IoT technology within the shared mobility sector. The new NB-IoT-enabled shared bikes are expected to have longer battery life—up to 2-3 years—and faster unlocking speeds. One of the key benefits is the ability to unlock vehicles even in areas with poor signal coverage, such as underground parking lots or remote locations. The technology ensures full signal coverage, making it more reliable than traditional methods. In the current market, users often face issues when cellular networks are weak, leading to delayed feedback from the bike’s status and potential billing problems. Traditional electronic locks also consume more power, requiring built-in energy generation systems that can be inconvenient for users. This new solution addresses these challenges effectively. The joint NB-IoT solution includes smart locks, connection chips, intelligent management systems, and cloud services. Leveraging NB-IoT’s superior coverage and ultra-low power consumption, this technology is well-suited for shared bike applications. It is expected to be commercialized within the next few months. Thanks to NB-IoT’s strong signal penetration, the unlocking process is fast and seamless. Users can even receive random passwords via data transmission, enhancing security and convenience. With a 20 dB stronger signal than conventional networks, NB-IoT allows users to unlock bikes in hard-to-reach spots without any trouble. Yu Quan, Chief Strategy Officer of Huawei’s Wireless Network Product Line, highlighted that Huawei has been actively developing NB-IoT technology since 2013. He noted that shared bicycles are a perfect use case for NB-IoT, and Huawei’s end-to-end solution has already been tested in over 20 industry applications. According to Yu Quan, the NB-IoT chip is cost-effective and will be launched alongside ofo’s commercial rollout soon. While the exact number of bikes involved in the cooperation hasn’t been disclosed, he mentioned that the technology isn’t exclusive and could potentially expand to other shared bike companies in the future.

1. Electricity price setting
After keeping COST button pressed lasting more than 3 seconds(LCD on third line display system defaults price, eg O.OOCOST/KWH ),the rendered content begins moving up and down which means that the device has entered the setting mode. Then press FUNCTION button to change selection and press UP/DOWN to set what you want. (On pressing once, the figure after domical point will increase or decrease accordingly. On pressing and hold-on, figures after demical point will increase or decrease slowly in 2 seconds while figures change quickly when hold-on time exceeds 2 seconds. When hold-on time reaches 10 seconds or more, the figures after demical point will stop while the figures before demical point begin to increasing or decreasing.) After that, press FUNCTION fbr swithing, then press [UP'nd "DOWN" button again to set value which ranges in OO.OOCOST/KWH 〜 99.99COST/KWH. After setting all above, press COST to return to Mode7 or it will automatically return to Mode7 without any pressing after setting with data storage.
