**Preliminaries**
The story starts with a friend I knew years ago who moved to the United States. We’ve been friends for a long time, and he always hoped that I would visit him one day. Although I know it’s just wishful thinking, I still felt excited about the idea. So, I decided to plan my trip to the U.S., and naturally, I thought about what gift I could bring him.
During a chat, he mentioned that his home Wi-Fi signal wasn’t great. I asked what kind of router he was using, and then I realized that this might be the perfect opportunity to give him something useful. He explained that his house had three bedrooms, four bathrooms, and two halls. My first thought was, “Why so many bathrooms?†But later, I found out that this is actually quite common in American homes.
Since he didn’t know the exact size or layout of the house, I asked him to send some photos of the interior. It's important to understand the environment before choosing the right solution.
He sent me several images, including a very stylish front door, a staircase that looked like it belonged in a villa, and an old-style kitchen. Then he told me he lived in Brea, which I later found out is near Los Angeles. The house price was around $30,000, which is much cheaper than what you’d get in China for a second-tier city.
After seeing the house, I realized that a regular router wouldn’t be enough. He had stairs and a two-story layout, so I chose a more powerful system designed for larger homes. I went with a powerline Wi-Fi extender, as it’s a reliable solution for homes with thick walls or large spaces.
I considered buying it directly abroad, but I wanted to support my country’s economy. Plus, I wasn’t sure about the voltage differences—U.S. uses 110V, while China uses 220V. A voltage converter would solve that.
I ordered it from JD.com, and the packaging was pretty good. The box was large, and the product was clearly labeled. I even got a small note inside saying "For your friend."
When the package arrived, I opened the box and saw the Orbi router. It looked sleek and modern. There were some manuals, but I skipped them. The main unit had four antennas and a few heat sinks on the back.
I did a quick disassembly to check the components. The main router used a Qualcomm IPQ4019 chip, which supports dual-band Wi-Fi, MU-MIMO, and 4x4 MIMO. There was also a QCA9886 chip for 5GHz support. The split router had similar components, though with slightly less memory.
Even though the split router was made for domestic use, it supported 110V input, so all I needed was a simple voltage adapter.
Setting up the router was straightforward. The Orbi app was available on both Apple and Google Play stores, but for Chinese users, it required downloading from the official website. Once installed, the setup wizard was in Chinese, which made things easier.
After installation, I tested the signal strength in different areas of the house. The results showed that the Orbi system provided better coverage than his previous router, especially on the second floor.
In the end, I sent the router to my friend in the U.S. and we met at a hotel. He was excited about the new setup, and we had a great meal at McDonald's, since it's a classic American experience.
Overall, the Orbi RBK30 is a solid choice for larger homes. It has strong signal coverage, a modern design, and is easy to use. However, it lacks a USB port, doesn’t support link aggregation, and the app is only in English.
This trip was more than just a visit—it was a chance to help a friend and see how technology can make life easier, no matter where you are.
Solar Light Battery
Lithium iron batteries have revolutionized the solar street lighting industry, providing a reliable source of energy that is environmentally friendly and cost-effective. These batteries are rechargeable and designed to efficiently store and release energy, making them an ideal solution for powering solar LED street lights. Compared to traditional lead-acid batteries, lithium batteries have a longer lifespan and are much lighter in weight. This makes them a great choice for solar street lights, where weight and space are often at a premium. Additionally, lithium batteries can operate in extreme temperatures, from -20°C to 60°C, making them suitable for all kinds of environments.
