Make Messenger more interesting, Facebook launches new AR camera effects

Facebook recently introduced a new set of augmented reality (AR) tools called "World Effects" for Messenger, enabling users to place real-time 3D objects into their photos and videos. This feature builds on Facebook's existing AR capabilities, like applying filters or face masks during a video call. The initial set of effects included floating hearts, arrows, 3D robots, unicorns, and text overlays such as "love," "heart," and "miss you." These effects are designed to make conversations more engaging and visually appealing. ![Image](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/7a/85/a1/8c73237bfd64537e7e21b37e68.jpg) The move is part of Facebook's strategy to keep Messenger fresh and competitive against apps like Snapchat. It also aims to attract younger users who might be shifting toward platforms like Snapchat. In fact, Snapchat launched a similar feature earlier this year called "World Lenses," which allows users to add interactive 3D elements to their surroundings. At the F8 Developer Conference this year, Facebook announced two key AR platforms: Camera Effects and AR Studio. The Camera Effects platform lets users edit live camera content within their apps, even turning 2D images into 3D effects. AR Studio, on the other hand, empowers developers to create custom 3D masks and experiences. Additionally, Facebook has partnered with Mito to develop three new AR camera effects. Looking ahead, Facebook plans to open up AR Studio to developers for testing and eventually launch an app store for AR content, aiming to compete with Apple’s ARKit and Google’s ARCore. By expanding its AR ecosystem, Facebook is positioning itself as a major player in the future of immersive social interaction.
