HARTING's edge computing system, MICA (Modular Industrial Computing Architecture), is designed to monitor and process data generated by industrial equipment. To enhance its functionality, HARTING has partnered with Arrow to introduce a new wireless sensor network solution for MICA. This innovative addition brings wireless communication capabilities to machine monitoring systems, making it easier to collect and analyze real-time data.
The new MICA wireless solution was recently showcased at the SPS IPC Drives trade show in Nuremberg, Germany, at HARTING’s booth. The integration of wireless sensors into MICA enables seamless connectivity, allowing manufacturers to monitor machines more efficiently without the need for extensive cabling or complex infrastructure.
Arrow has developed various modules that support communication with sensors using multiple wireless protocols, such as SmartMESH IP (DUST), Bluetooth Low Energy, and XBee. These modules allow MICA to capture and process data from wireless sensors, whether directly connected or through sensor nodes. This flexibility makes it possible to implement condition monitoring solutions quickly and cost-effectively, even on older machinery.
By leveraging wireless technology, companies can now track critical data like operating hours, temperature, and environmental conditions without the high costs associated with traditional wired systems or expensive industrial sensors. This opens up new possibilities for predictive maintenance and operational optimization.
Arrow is also a member of MICA.network, a collaborative platform that connects MICA users with industry experts and partners. This network helps streamline the implementation of IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things) projects, making it easier for manufacturers to adopt smart, connected solutions.
MICA is a modular and open-edge computing system that can be customized to meet the specific needs of any manufacturing environment. It supports a wide range of traditional industrial interfaces, including Profinet, Ethernet/IP, EtherCAT, and Modbus, as well as advanced features like energy monitoring, analytics, and RFID integration. With its flexible architecture, MICA is a powerful tool for driving digital transformation in modern factories.
