xHCI 1.0 Standard USB 3.0 Controller

Fresco Logic Inc. announced the new USB 3.0 controller chip FL1009. The key feature is "the world's first USB 3.0 controller product that complies with the official xHCI 1.0 specification."

Referring to the xHCI version 1.0 specification, many readers may not be aware of its importance. In fact, the current major manufacturers have not added USB 3.0 support to the chipset. The most fundamental reason is actually waiting for the release of the xHCI 1.0 specification. As early as the beginning of USB 3.0, due to dissatisfaction with Intel's "USB Implementation Forum" refused to open the details of the USB 3.0 specification, AMD, NVIDIA, VIA had formed a coalition, claiming to be another portal to launch its own USB 3.0 standard. Intel, on the other hand, said that it has not opened up its own development of the USB 3.0 bus controller specification, which has nothing to do with USB 3.0. Eventually under pressure, Intel announced the "Extended Main Controller Interface Specification" free of charge, namely xHCI.

However, after the release of the 0.9 version of the xHCI specification in August 2008, it is still on the 0.9x version. Without a formal version of the standard, other manufacturers naturally dare not integrate it into the chipset. So, where does this "first xHCI 1.0 controller" come from?

According to reports, Intel actually completed the development of the xHCI 1.0 specification in May this year, but it has not been announced. FL1009 is a product based on the xHCI 1.0 specification after Fresco Logic cooperated with Intel.

At the IDF held last week, Fresco has demonstrated the FL1009, with Symave's SW6318 USB 3.0 RAID controller, using two SSDs to achieve 376.6MB/s read, 381.3MB/s write speed level, in the USB interface The field of transmission is definitely the highest level.

Fresco Logic said that they are working with AMI to provide native support for the controller in the BIOS and will provide WHQL drivers for the chip, allowing manufacturers to use the high-speed USB 3.0 solution on their motherboards or laptops.
