Gartner: Tablet PC prices will continue to decline by half in 2015

Gartner predicts that as tablet sales increase, the average price in 2015 will be about half of the current price.

The Gartner report pointed out that in 2010, a total of 17.6 million tablet PCs were sold, mainly Apple’s iPad, and the average selling price was US$543 per unit.

Gartner predicts that competition in the global market will become even fiercer in 2011, with the number of tablet PCs sold to 69.5 million units and the average selling price of US$423.

Gartner said that the average selling price of tablet PCs will continue to decline, reaching US$300 in 2013 and US$263 in 2015. By that time, the number of tablets sold will reach 295 million units.

The growth of some tablet PCs comes from the reduction of PC spending costs, and PC makers have already noticed this trend.

Gartner pointed out that due to the hot sale of Apple's iPad and other tablet computers, the forecast for IT spending in 2011 was raised to US$3.6 trillion, which is 5.6% more than the previous forecast.

Gartner analyst Richard Gordon believes that tablet PCs are the main reason for the upward adjustment of global IT spending forecasts. This year, global tablet spending is expected to exceed 29 billion U.S. dollars, compared with approximately 10 billion U.S. dollars in 2010.
