The AMD Ryzen3 is still on sale with less than 10 days left, and many smaller retailers are struggling to keep up. Even though I pushed last week’s article titled "A Single Vow to Supercharge the i3 with Ryzen3!" some smaller retailers are still unsure whether to go with Intel’s Core i3 or AMD’s Ryzen3. So, I thought I’d take a closer look today to help determine which option might be better suited for different needs.
Let’s start by calculating the budget for peripherals. DDR4 memory comes in 4GB for 259 yuan or 8GB for 489 yuan—this is non-negotiable, regardless of whether you're using Ryzen3, i3, or even Pentium. A 3TB mechanical hard drive costs 549 yuan, while an SSD in 120GB is 439 yuan or 639 yuan for 240GB. Additionally, the case, power supply, keyboard, and mouse are all estimated at 350 yuan and 100 yuan respectively. This brings the hard costs roughly to:
1. 8GB+120GB SSD+case+power supply+keyboard and mouse = 1378 yuan
2. 4GB x 2 + 120GB SSD + case+power supply+keyboard and mouse = 1407 yuan
3. 8GB + 3TB hard drive + case+power supply+keyboard and mouse = 1488 yuan
4. 8GB + 240GB SSD + case+power supply+keyboard and mouse = 1578 yuan
5. 8GB + 120GB SSD + 3TB mechanical hard drive + case+power supply+keyboard and mouse = 828 yuan
6. 8GB + 240GB SSD + 3TB mechanical hard drive + case+power supply+keyboard and mouse = 2027 yuan
Next, let’s consider the motherboard options:
**For Intel Processors:**
- **H110 Chipset:** Starting at around 299 yuan, this is the most affordable option with decent performance.
- **H270 Chipset:** Priced at approximately 599 yuan, it offers enhanced capabilities but at a slightly higher cost.
- **Z270 Chipset:** Around 899 yuan, providing top-tier performance and versatility, but the highest price tag.
**For AMD Processors:**
- **A320 Chipset:** Starts at around 399 yuan, offering a variety of features at a moderate price.
- **B350 Chipset:** Approximately 499 yuan, delivering excellent performance and great value for money.
Now, let's talk about the GPU component. Intel processors come with integrated graphics, meaning no additional card is needed unless you’re gaming or have specific requirements. For Intel’s i3 or Pentium, this could mean a zero-cost GPU option. However, AMD’s Ryzen3 lacks integrated graphics, necessitating a dedicated GPU. A lightweight GPU like the GTX1030 costs around 599 yuan, while the RX560 is priced at 799 yuan. A more powerful 1060 3GB model currently retails for around 2000 yuan, and the 1060 6GB version exceeds 2500 yuan.
When considering cost-effective configurations:
**Option 1: Intel Pentium G4560 + H110 Motherboard + 4GB x 2 / 8GB Memory**
Note that DDR4 can only operate at 2133MHz in this setup due to the limitations of the H110 motherboard. Even DDR4 2400 is unsupported. I highly recommend at least 8GB of memory, whether paired as 4GB x 2 or as a single 8GB module. Despite these limitations, the Pentium G4560 performs exceptionally well, even outperforming Intel’s own i3 7100. With this combination, the total cost can be kept under 2000 yuan, offering impressive value.
**Option 2: AMD Ryzen3 1200 + A320 Motherboard + 4GB x 2 / 8GB Memory**
This setup is best paired with the “Program 4†option, providing superior cost-effectiveness. Even for gaming, the price remains below 4000 yuan (around 3000 yuan with a lightweight GPU). Unfortunately, the A320 motherboard limits Ryzen3’s overclocking potential.
**Option 3: Ryzen3 1300X + B350M + 4GB x 2 / 8GB RAM**
I suggest going with the “Solution 5 or 6,†which provides the best performance, especially in multi-core tasks, and supports overclocking. This combination is ideal for mid-range budgets. With an RX560, you can enjoy smooth 1080P gaming. Additionally, I recommend pairing the Ryzen3 1300X with a standalone GPU to maximize the configuration’s full potential.
Lastly, the i3 7100 is quite impressive, offering performance similar to the G4560 but falls short in core count compared to Ryzen3. The i3 7350K requires overclocking, making the Z270 chipset the best choice, though it pushes the motherboard price close to 1000 yuan, increasing overall costs. Choosing a Z170 board, while possible, doesn’t offer the same memory performance (DDR4 2400 isn’t supported) and has become less competitive since Ryzen3’s release.
In conclusion, both options have their merits, and the final decision depends on your budget and intended use. Ryzen3 offers strong multi-core performance, while Intel’s offerings provide solid single-threaded performance at lower costs.
