LGD plans to invest 4 billion yuan to build 8.5 generation OLED TV panel production line

It is reported that LG Display (hereinafter referred to as LGD) has confirmed that it will invest about 706.3 billion won (about 4.06 billion yuan) to build a 8.5-generation WRGB OLED TV panel production line, which is currently the world's largest O LED TV panel production line. LG D revealed that this year, a total investment budget of 4 trillion won was planned, and the project was the first large-scale investment project.

OLED into an investment center of gravity

The additional 8.5-generation OLED TV panel production line (substrate size 2200mm × 2500mm) will be located in the P 9 plant in Paju, South Korea, using WR GB OLED technology, with a monthly capacity of 26,000 pieces (subject to the input glass substrate) It is expected to achieve mass production in the first half of 2014.

The person in charge said that this is the company's second O LE D production line. “The company has one original, which is based on the input of glass substrates. It can be used for R&D and production.” The company passed the production capacity and market conditions. In-depth analysis, plans to expand the scale of O LE D production, achieve economies of scale, with the best investment solutions to ensure cost-competitive strategy to seize the OLED TV market, and expand the distance with competitors to achieve "LGO LED TV --- The world's first goal.

According to relevant data, the size of the OLED TV market is expected to increase significantly in 2014. In 2015, the market size will reach US$3 billion, which will become the driving force for the high-end TV market.

The person in charge also revealed that LG D's budget for R&D and investment in 2013 was about 4 trillion won, and the production investment was included in the budget, accounting for about 20%.

Korean preemptive layout card position

According to industry insiders, Korean panel companies are leading the way in OLED production, including Samsung. However, mass production products are mainly small-sized smartphone panels. "The current development and competition focus is on large-size TVs. Who is the first to break through the bottleneck.” At present, there is no OLED panel for TV in Japan. Japanese companies mainly plan to conduct online in 8.5 and 6 generations. On behalf of enterprises, Sharp is the mainstay. Sony and Panasonic are also active in this aspect.

In the past two years, everyone has begun to explore the future replacement LCD display technology. Korean manufacturers have shown their determination to OLED technology in the development and investment of OLE D. LGD also said that LG D decided to expand its investment and accelerate the capture of the O LED TV market in a short period of time because of its confidence in the unique W RG BO LED technology.

It is understood that the current OLED students are mainly modified from the original LCD panel. The person in charge of LG D said that the WR GBO LE D technology adopted by the company has the advantage of high utilization rate of the original LC D equipment, which can reduce the production cost, facilitate the mass production of large O LEDs, and achieve economies of scale.

In addition, WRGB OLED technology solves the problem of heating large OLED TVs by using Oxide T FT and copper matching technology. The weight of the 55-inch panel is only 3.5kg, and the thickness of the panel is only 1/5 of the thickness of the LCD. Thinner than a smartphone, only 4m m.

However, OLED products are still "noble". In January of this year, LG Electronics launched the world's first OLED TV in South Korea, priced at 11 million won (about 63,000 yuan), currently based on booking sales. LG Electronics did not disclose the specific sales volume, according to industry speculation or sales 130-200 units.
