As announced earlier, WACKER will also expand its factories in Burghausen and Nünchritz, Germany. By 2012, the annual output of the two plants will increase by 10,000 metric tons. Therefore, by 2014, WACKER's ultra-pure polysilicon production capacity will rise to 67,000 metric tons.
Rudolf Staudigl, CEO of Wacker Chemie AG, said in explaining the investment: “This expansion is necessary to meet the customer's future demand for high-quality polysilicon for high-efficiency solar cells.â€
Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam said: "I am very pleased to see WACKER making this investment in Tennessee. This project is an important measure to make Tennessee the number one high-quality employment state in the southeastern United States."
WACKER produced more than 30,000 metric tons of ultrapure polysilicon in 2010, making it one of the world's top producers. With the start of construction in the factories in Cleveland and Nünchritz, WACKER will consolidate its position as a top supplier in the field of high quality semiconductors and solar grade silicon materials.
