HDMI Interface Specification Encounters Strong Enemy OTT Boxes

I don't know if you have noticed that in 2015, especially in the second half of the year, several mobile phones started to support the USB Type-C format. Recently, at the CES 2016, USB Type-C became a popular star, becoming the standard for newly introduced mobile phones, tablets, and computers, as well as a large number of USB Type-C converters that have the full potential of occupying the entire CES. Why does USB Type-C have such a charm and become a big star?

Because of the ease of use and versatility of the USB interface, almost all of our electronic devices now have a USB data interface. With the increasing speed of the exchange of data, the original USB specification has become very backward. Although the USB 3.0 interface was later developed, its development has been tepid due to no revolutionary breakthrough. As a result, the USB promotion team began to promote the next-generation USB Type-C interface in 2013. Its advantage is that it can be forward and reversed and can provide up to 100W of power forward and reverse transmission like the Lightning lightning interface. More revolutionary is that USB Type-C is compatible with the ability to transmit MHL Ultra High Definition transmission lines.

Many televisions now come standard with MHL support. MHL-enabled mobile phones can directly connect to high-definition video on TV. After USB Type-C became standard on mobile phones, tablets, computers, and TVs, Type-C-enabled TVs or monitors became the charging power source for mobile devices. If the television's intelligence falls behind mobile devices, the Intelligence becomes meaningless and can only be used as a display for mobile phones, tablets, or mobile notebooks. The beneficiaries will be technology giants such as Apple, Intel, and Qualcomm. This is not difficult to understand, these giants are also the main promoters of the USB Type-C standard.

As such, after the popularization of USB Type-C in the mobile tablet personal computer, isn't it nearly 40 years old? Only a small screen on the host. Well, the OTT set-top box that is now rampant is no longer necessary.

In spite of the development of hardware, regardless of content, the content is the foundation for maintaining the survival of hardware and the carrier of cultural information. Retaining DVB may be the most important reason for the existence of TV boxes. The special properties of cable television determine the security of information transmission relative to OTT set-top boxes. No matter how the smart TV terminal develops, the DVB part is indispensable, and the DVB+OTT may be the last thread of the OTT set-top box.
